The Sea of Cortez - ‘World Apart’

glofi:

World Apart by The Sea of Cortez

“Make It Sound”, the full-length album from the Sea of Cortez was released today.  See what the hype is about and download the album from their bandcamp page.

This says it best:

A group of friends in LA who dig playing music. From atmospheric instrumentals to honest acoustic reflections, for the love of music, The Sea Of Cortez creates a diverse sound, rarely adhering to any single genre.

Hands - ‘Magic Fingers’

Good luck trying to Google the band Hands. It will be interesting to see if they can actually become popular enough that their name gets optimized.

Anyway, I really dig this group and in particular I love this track. It’s magically moving. Their big drums and bass rhythm are really intense and lighthearted, at the same time. Totally feel-free music, you know the type of music you can whimsically dance to.

You will dig the Hands if you are a fan of Born Ruffians, Yeasayer and Local Natives.

Hands will be heading down to SXSW this year. I just posted the list of the seventeen must-see bands at SXSW 2011 this year. You can check out the list here and download some mp3’s.

Kiev - Loot Recovered (Live In On Around The Warehouse)

I just saw KIEV at Bardot for the last night of their residency at Camerata Sundays. They were so funky and so fabulous. Really talented musicians. Keep an eye on them or better yet, just go to their website for more music.

The Belle Brigade & Tennis @ The Echo in Los Angeles, CA

Tonight 11/11 at The Echo in Los Angeles, CA. Made a wish and it didn’t come true, but I still got to see great music.

Headlining: Sonny & The Sunsets

Such a fun time. Totally a throwback to the days where girls boobs were really pointy and first base was such a big deal. But, that is the adorable catch to it all. Nobody was shouting, but everyone was twisting. Okay actually come to think about it, there was whistling and cheering. Cheerful everyone was in fact.

Opening: The Belle Brigade

Tonight I discovered my new LA band to follow around town. To stalk from the dance floor that is. Which is nice, because it has been a while since I went to a show to see one band and left wanting to stalk the other band. For real though. Props to the adorable singer with the red floppy hair and the No Fear t-shirt on. For a moment I thought they were from Florida. Why? I am not sure, why I thought they were from Florida. But, I did and I still really enjoyed them. Talent, check. Musical, check. Good times, check.

Middle : TENNIS

The reason I rushed down Sunset blvd (drove carefully of course) was to see the adorable and vibrant pop played band TENNIS. The lead singer has a voice that will just make you melt, but not in the Echo (it’s too hot). In The Echo she will make you sway and awww. She needs a band with more backup, that is my one complaint. I mean sure, if she wants she can have pre-recorded music, but she deserves more. They were great though. Especially the song they wrote to play at a middle school dance. If you don’t know Tennis, well you really should - they are an adorable married couple whom write music on boats and sail the sea together. In fact, they are so special I ordered their cassette tape earlier this year. Tennis’ track ‘Marathon’ is on my best of 2010 list. If you didn’t know, well, then, now you know.

Panda Bear at FYF 201 … Did you see this?

In case you were one of the many who snatched the neon iPhone case at FYF 2010, well did you even stop and think for a minute that there would be this awesome cute little catalogue of dialogue and the art of Luke McGarry’s sketches for artists such as: Panda Bear, Local Natives and Ted Leo? Did you?

Well now that I have completed that extremely run on sentence, I hope you catch my drift. I am about to present to you in so little words and a few cute pictures - the preview display of L.A. Record’s amazing presentation of FYF 2010.

FYF Fest. Saturday Sept. 4th Brought to by L.A. Record

I got my hands on one of these amazing mini-zines, because this drunk girl at a party was like “oh this guy I met last weekend invited me to the fest, omgawsh it was so fun, we got so drunk, now he is outside and just talking to other girls, so I am just sitting here pretending to be enjoying this catalog”  - yeah, that chick gave it to me.

the Cults:

Local Natives:

always fabulous and familiar band … Local Natives, this time there were some electric guitar riffs that even got those not on double shots off their feet and dancing in the heat of the day.

Screaming Females:

The Rapture:

And give it up for the one, the only - Ted Leo:

And now I would like the designer of the map to please stand up.

A, B, C do not match up in anyway with Sequoia Stage, Redwood Stage and Oak Stage. It’s cool I kept on moving …

and then make me smile all over again for my favorite term of endearment ever “!!!”

!!!

last thing to say …

L.A. Record you should have the FYF listed on the homepage of your site or live reviews and potentially the digital version of your mini-zine drawings done by Luke McGarry. At LEAST 24 hours after the festival is over.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Live at LA CITA in downtown LA. This band’s energy is beautiful and exuberating.
